June 13th - For our remaining plants and our produce, please visit us at our JFK stand, open daily 9am-1pm. We will have extended hours in July when our sweet corn begins. Our Blains location will also open in July. Produce that is available now: asparagus (almost done for the season), kohlrabi, sweet candy onions, cherry tomatoes, greenhouse tomatoes, broccoli, snow peas, cabbage, cucumbers, zucchini, pickling size cucumbers, red new potatoes, and South Carolina peaches. 6/14 will be the last day for pre-picked strawberries for the season. Green and yellow beans will be starting soon. Pick-your-own strawberries are starting on 6/14, and will continue for approximately a week, possibly longer, based on what is left in the field. Pick-your-own berries are $4 per quart. It is available during all daylight hours, although we may at times have to temporarily close the patch for an hour or two if we need to irrigate the plants. We do not have an attendant on duty. It is self-serve, on the honor system, cash only. Please bring exact change. We supply the quart boxes. This year's patch is not as bountiful as it has been in previous years.
We are anticipating that sweet corn will begin around July 4th or 5th. We will finalize the exact date by around the beginning of July. Estimating the growth rate of plants is not so easy, as we have to rely on the weather for proper growing conditions.
Our 2025 pre-picked strawberry harvest was not one of our best seasons. We plant a new strawberry patch every few years to have newer more vigorous plants. 2025 is the last year for this particular patch. This particular patch was also damaged from heavy rains and flooding in 2024, another cause for a less productive season. We have planted new roots for 2026. We will have a new, larger patch, with hopefully a more production harvest in 2026.
2024 Sweet Corn began on July 5th and ended on September 30th. 2024 was one of our more challenging years. We experienced heavy rains with high winds in the first half of our season, which caused flash flooding, erosion, fertilizer reduction, and other problems. Mid-season we experienced a derecho which flattened one of our plantings. Late season we had a lack of rain and dealt with many critters that wanted to feast on our corn. We are hoping to have more stable weather conditions in 2025.
During the last 10 years, our sweet corn has begun between July 3rd and July 14. Our earliest ever start to our sweet corn season was on June 24, 2012. The timing of our first sweet corn date depends completely on the weather in the early growing season. Our sweet corn typically ends in mid-late September, all weather dependent. We have typically planted our first sweet corn between April 1st - April 22th.
While our produce stand and picking crew positions may be filled, you can still complete and submit an application if you would like to be on a wait list in case something opens up.
We begin accepting applications for produce stand clerks and the picking crew in late spring/early summer. Please submit your application in person at one of our stands, directly at the farm, or at Farmers Market.
