Employment Descriptions and Application

Farm/Field Crew

  •   Work begins in early – mid July, and runs through September; school aged workers are able to continue working on weekends until the end of our season
  • These positions start around 4:45 am (sun-up); the start time will move as we are later in the season and the sun rises later. 
  • Shifts are 3 – 5 hours daily; Late season (September are usually 2-3 hours per shift)
  • It is preferred that individuals are able to work at least 5 days each week, including Saturdays
  • Days off are permitted for vacation with advance notice
  • Work continues rain or shine; we only pause work during lightning storms or dangerous weather
  • We provide rain gear, gloves, eye protection, and rubber boots
  • Workers must be able to lift and carry 30+ pounds 
  • Work is fast paced and very physical
  • Responsibilities include: picking corn; carrying crates of corn; accurately counting and bagging corn; picking tomatoes; washing tomatoes; picking other produce; washing other produce; weeding
  • Our farm is located at 550 W Kroll Rd, East Dubuque IL 61025. From Dubuque, off of Hwy 20 and past Family Beer, turn right onto Frentress Lake Rd. The gravel entry to the farm is just past the second set of railroad tracks on Frentress Lake Rd.
  • Individuals must have reliable transportation; there is no public transportation available

Produce Stand Workers

  • Work is performed at one of three locations:

  1. Blain’s Farm & Fleet (West End)
  2. JFK Stand (Former Shopko Parking Lot)
  3. Saturday morning Farmers’ Market (Downtown Dubuque)

  • Our season runs from early July through September – start and end dates vary based on crop production
  • School aged workers will be able to continue working on weekends after school begins
  • Number of shifts per week varies based on location and seniority
  • Saturdays are our busiest day, so individuals must be willing to work on Saturdays
  • Vacation time is permitted with notice in advance
  • Work schedule by location:

  1. Farm & Fleet and JFK stands: Begins at 7:45 am (8:45am on weekends), 2 – 5 hours per shift; there may be some options for early afternoon shifts
  2. Farmers’ Market: Begins at 6:30 am (Saturdays only), 3 – 5 hours per shift

  • Workers may move from one location to another location during a shift
  • Work is performed rain or shine. Individuals provide their own raingear and sun block.
  • Individuals need to be able to lift and carry 25+ pounds.  Work is fast paced and physical
  • Responsibilities include: accurately counting and bagging ears of corn; lifting and moving bags of corn or other produce; carrying produce and corn to vehicles for customers; assisting customers in a friendly manner; cleaning up the work area; using mental math during work as a cashier/clerk, by accurately providing a total for the customer, collecting money from customers, providing the correct change for a customer
